The Dark Age of Indian Education

Every one among us must have heard about our ancestors innovation and the progress that they had contributed in the field of  science and technology .

Once upon a time we used to be among the best in Mathematics, Medicine, Science, astronomy,  and in many more.

2000 years ago hardly any county/civilization was there to compete with us in innovation. Our contribution towards Mathematics , Medicine and science was unparalleled in those days.

I am not going to list out all the innovation of Indians from the past. It will divert the topic.

What I am Trying to Say :

If we were so great in all the fields during ancient days then what happen now ?

Why there is no Indian names in modern science and innovation ?

Hardly any modern science theory is there in the name of a Indian scientist . Why There is no Indian Einstein or Newton ?

So.. What happen ? where are we ?  What happen to our education ?
It can not be possible that we knew everything but suddenly we forgot that.

The Golden Days :

Many of us may not know that  the first university in the world was established in India. I am talking about  the great Nalanda and Taxashila university.

You will be surprised to know about the subject that were taught and number of student used to studies in Nalanda university.

Chinese traveler Hiuen Tsang has given a detailed description about Nalanda University in his written memories.
The subjects taught at Nalanda covered every field of learning. Starting Mathematics to astronomy, Philosophy, Buddhist studies, Logic,Medicine, Grammar and it attracted pupils and scholars from Korea, Japan, China, Tibet, Indonesia, Persia and Turkey.

It is claimed to have accommodated over 10,000 students and 2,000 teachers

But are these two the only knowledge centers that existed in ancient India ? Answer is no. The list follows
  • Takshashila University
  • Nalanda University
  • Pushpagiri University
  • Valabhi University
  • Vikramshila University
  • Odantapuri University
  • Telhara University
All those  universities were of equal important for higher studies . These were the center for formal learning.
Now come to the point. What happen to these education centers ?.

Here Is The Fact :

Many of the universities mentioned above came to an end around 12th century. The main reason was the foreign inversion. Invaders from central Asia came and destroyed these learning centers.

One example I can give about destruction of The Nalanda University.

The Turkish invader Bakhtiyar Khalji sacked the university in the year 1200. He killed almost  all the teachers of Nalanda University and the library was burn down.

Traditional Tibetan sources mention the existence of three great library at Nalanda. All were well equipped with manuscripts of different subjects. All the three library were multi stored building. Biggest one was 9 stored.

It is said that, when Bakhtiyar Khalji, gave ordered to burn down the library, It took several days to burn all the available manuscripts. Some say even a month.

Same fate was for other universities also. The new rulers did not allowed any formal Indian education centers nor they showed any interest to established new ones.

What Happen Next :

After destruction of all Learning centers, the whole of India went into dark ages for next 800 years. There was not a single public institution was available where any one can go for formal education. Our whole education system was collapsed.

Now only few Brahmani families was there who used to study Sanskrit at home, and it was only for ritual proposes.

After 12th Century, While in European counties were doing research  on science and mathematics, At that time we were living in absolute dark ages. When Europeans were developing new technologies, we are fighting for our survival and food.

It continued till early 1900. Britishers also did not gave much important to revive  the education system in India (Except few occasions). Britishers were busy to loot India. They were least interested  to invest in some useless education.
                                                          (Ruins of Nalanda)
Conclusion : I am not here to blame any central Asian invaders or any Britishers for our fate. But  fact is fact.
You can not change the truths. And the truth is, Invaders ruined our whole civilization. Our history and knowledge were burn down into asses.

GODLESS WORLD

As an individual, I am deeply religious. Though I don’t visit temple often but still I respect my and other religion with highest order.

But today, a simple thought came to my mind. “What if there will be no religion or god in this earth “

This is not a new idea. Communists’ don’t believe in god and so as atheists.
But still I just gave a thought for few minutes and imagined how the world will look like if there will be no religion on earth.

My View:

Once Karl Marx had said “Religion is the opium of the people” The ruling class always use it as a weapon to rule the masses. The organized religion is a human made creation to impose the rule and order on working class as per their convenience

If you think deeply, then you will get confused. If the religion is helping us to be united or it is working as a catalyst to divide the human race.

Let’s discuss about today’s scenario. If there will be no religion then there will no VHP, no Islamic state and no conversion of tribal population in the name of Holy Father.
There will be no religious fanatics who will try to impose their version of god. There will be no religious books which will provoke individuals to kill each other in the name of god.
People are committing genocide and crimes in the name of religion but still they are unquestionable because they are doing it in the name of religion and they are fighting a holy war.

If anyone will look around then he can find that all major problem the human race is facing is because of one fundamental believe that  : “My religion or my God is greater than yours".

Among Hindus, they have a division based upon which Baba or guru they are following. A large population of Hindus can’t enter the temple as they are untouchables. But few Brahmins have the de-facto power to worship the god inside temple and they directly communicate with the almighty. I don’t know who gave them this power.

In almost all part of Indiaforeign missionaries are converting poor individuals and indigenous population in the name of charity.I am not going deep in details but Charity is good but to use it as a tool to convert is questionable Some time it create tension among local population and we have seen violence due to this. The Idea behind this type of conversion is “My religion or my God is greater than yours"

In the most progressive country USA, after conversion also, Native Americans were slaughtered because they were not good Christians.
Hitler used religion to kill Jews during 2nd world war.
Whatever we are doing in our everyday life we are doing it in a religion point of view. We are not doing it with a human touch.

Future Religious War:

I have absolutely no doubt that, the world will have a religious war in future. As far as I can see, the 3rd world war will be fought on the basis of god to whom you worship. In fact the world is already in a state religious war. In last five years more than one million people has been killed due to a religious war in Arab region.
The present day Kashmir issue is a religious issue. Creation of Pakistan is a religious issue. Arab-Israel war is a religious one and the list will go on.
Closing Line :

The concept of religion and god is different what we know. It is the heart of heartless and soul of soul less. But now it is doing exactly opposite to this.
We need to think. Is the world will be better place to live if there will be no religion ? I don’t know. May v may not be.
If there will be no religion people may start to fight in the name of skin color. Then my culture is better than yours or I am an Indian and you are a non Indian or I am a African and you are a European … then bla bla bla.

I just gave my thought. I am no one to judge the whole world.
If you have any other view then you are most welcome.

DRAUPADI :The 1st Feminist From The Ancient India.

Does a man has any authority to sell/stake his wife as a property ? The answer is simple. A Big No. Then how can the Dharma Raj himself can make a mistake like this ? In fact its not a mistake, its a sin.

History will never forgive Yudhisthira for this.

This is one occasion which has changed the Indian value system and social thoughts for ever. Lets discuss about this and we will see how the daughter of fire has reacted to this madness.

The Situation:

The Kuru Mahasabha is full of nobles and intellectuals. In presence of these high ranking nobles one illicit game is going on.

Yudhisthira himself knew it very well. slowly slowly he is losing the game and all his belongings. 1st he lost his money. then his land and kingdom. Then his brothers and lost himself also.

Now he has nothing left with him. He lost everything. Suddenly he realized that still he has something to keep in stake. Its non other than his wife Draupadi to whom his younger brother Arjuna has own in the swayambar.

Next moment he lost Draupadi also..

*This was the  failure of king Yudhisthira as a husband.

Draupadi's Reaction:

upon summoned to the royal court, her 1st reaction was how can a women be in the stake of a dice game ?

Then she ask the messenger Go and check if the gambler, who he had lost first—himself or her? This one was a bold move by Draupadi. Imagine that situation. It was in ancient India and a women is asking question to the royal court.

Once reached the the court, Draupadi ask this question to Yudhisthira again and again. The Dharma Raja was stays still, as if he has lost his voice.

Till today also this question is in debate. after losing him self has Yudhisthira holds any authority to keep Draupadi in stake ?

Her Fight Back :

She was dragged to the court by hair in presence of all elders. No one had any courage to stop this madness. All her five husbands became stone idol but she was not.

She was not submissive. She fought against this barbarism with all her power. But rule of the nature came in front of her. a women cant win against male in muscle power.

She was angry. She shout help from all elders and all the powerful men in that royal court. but she got nothing..

Now she has decided to destroy every thing and every one present in that court. Inducing her useless husbands.

She is thinking to curse every one in the KURU clan. when she was just about to pronounce the curse at that moment another women came to stop her. It is the queen mother Gandhari.

How amazing ..One women is determent to take revenge by destroying whole clan and another women wants to save her family from this. Finally the Agni kanya agreed not to curse.

But she has decided to take the revenge. She is not there to forgot or forgive. after that what happened all we know. The Mahabharat

Conclusion:

But up to this she has made her point. She has challenged the whole male power and there domination in the society.

She has asked questions in the royal court and no one able to answer her. No one in that court had the courage to see eye to eye with Panchali.

That day, only Draupadi was not there in that Kuru sabha. She was representing the whole gender.

That day she has not spoken on behalf of herself. she was speaking for all helpless women.

That day it was decided how the Indian social structure will be in future.

It was that daughter of Fire who raise voice for women's right in the Kuru Sabha. It was Draupadi. The 1st feminist from the ancient India.

"Nature Is Cruel"

Today is my 75th Birth day
Now I am alone.
Sitting at my balcony.

Mom is not there to go to temple for me.
father is not there to bring cakes.
Wife is not there to say happy b'day dear.
children's don't remember my b'day .

Now I am alone.
Sitting at my balcony.

cant see properly what is going on the road.
Cant hear clearly what the noise is all about.
But Wish, I could dance on the road side mud again..

Now I am alone.
Sitting at my balcony.

Still i remember the river that i used to swim when i was a child.
Still I remember the field I used to run..
Still I remember the temple bell and the mango trees in my village.
But cant walk any more to see them.

Now I am alone.
Sitting at my balcony.

I am trying to remember my mothers innocent face.
I am trying to remember my fathers angry voice.
But my memory is not supporting me any more.

The Nature is very cruel..

Now I am alone.
Sitting at my balcony.

My Beloved wife has left me..
My innocent mother has gone long back
No idea about my childhood friends..
But still I remember those useless fellows..

Now I am alone with bunch of memories.
Sitting at my balcony..

Waiting for my death..
The Nature is  cruel.

Today is my 75th B'day..

KASHMIR : The Paradise of Amir Khusro

"Agar firdaus bar ru-ye zamin ast,
Hamin ast o hamin ast o hamin ast "

"If there is a paradise on earth,It is this, it is this and it is this."

These beautiful words about Kashmir were written by the grate Persian poet Amir Khusro.

When Emperor Jahangir was asked on his death bed about his cherished desire he is credited to have said: "Kashmir", the rest is worthless.

These lines and words about Kashmir are now stories like "Once upon a time".

Situation has changed. Now Kashmir means fear. Everyone knew about the Kashmir issue but very few are aware about the exact issue and what the issue is all about.

I know if I will write an elaborate one then no one will read the whole thing. I will try to make as short and simple as possible. Briefly I will cover from the past to present.

Origin of kashmir :

Legends say, the word "kashmir"has came from the name of the great sage "kashyapa", Son of Marichi. Starting from vedic period to next 4000 years, Kashmir was one of the primary hub and learning center for Shaivism and Buddhism.

Islamic Rule in Kashmir:

( Local Muslim Shawl Makers doing some work)

Till 1320 AD Kashmir was ruled by Hindu Kings and demographically the valley was dominated by pandit population.

During the 11th century, Mahmud of Ghazni made two attempts to conquer Kashmir. However, both his campaigns failed
In 1320 one Buddhist prince named Rinchan came from Ladakh and became the king.

This Buddhist prince has converted in to Islam and started the Islamic rule in Kashmir. There is a interesting story how he got converted.

The story is like this: The king Rinchan was very confuse about which religion he should follow so that his dynasty will last for long. Then his minister Shah Mir convinced Rinchan that he could choose to convert to Hinduism, Buddhism, or Islam by tomorrow morning.

Shah Mir suggested to Rinchan that he could convert to the religion of the first person they encounter next morning.

The next morning when they left the palace the first person they met was Sufi mystic Syed Sharafuddin Bulbul Shah who was performing his morning prayers. Rinchan converted to Islam and adopted the title of Sultan Sadruddin Shah. 10,000 of his subjects, including is brother-in-law Ravanachandra, converted along with him.

The Sultans were tolerant of other religions with the exception of Sultan Sikandar (1389-–1413 CE).

Then came the Mugulas and after that Afghnas.

Afghan rule in Kashmir was extremely cruel and oppressive, particularly for the pandit community. Locals were extorted from, captured and forced into slavery during this period. Afghans ruled Kashmir for around 70 years

Come Back of Hindu and Sikh rule

In 1819 sikh warrior under the leadership of Maharaja Ranjit singh has conquered Kashmir from afghans and they started sikh kingdom in the valley until 1849.

In 1849 Maharaja Gulab singh sat on the thrown of Jammu and Kashmir with the help of Britishers. He started the Dogra(Hindu) Dynasty in J & K. This Dynasty lasted till division of India.

( Pandits are writing some religious text during 1890)

Division of India and creation of Pakistan :

When Britishers left India in 1947 they have divided into two parts. But there were around 547 princely states (Princely State: a state having its own King) and Kashmir was one among them.

Those princely states were free to decide if they want to merge with India, Pakistan or remain independent.

At that time Maharaja Hari singh was the king of kashmir. He decided to remain independent. His attitude towards Muslim population was not so warm and he was not so popular among the Kashmir population.

Invasion of Pakistan into kashmir :

In October 1947,Pashtuns with the help of Pakistani army, invaded Kashmir. They allegedly incensed by the atrocities against fellow Muslims in Poonch and Jammu. The tribesmen engaged in looting and killing along the way.The ostensible aim of the guerilla campaign was to frighten Hari Singh into submission.

Hari singh shouted help from India. That time Indian govt agreed on the condition that the ruler accede to India.Once the Maharaja signed the Instrument of Accession, Indian soldiers entered Kashmir and drove the Pakistani-sponsored irregulars till the present LOC.

The Pakistani government immediately contested the accession, suggesting that it was fraudulent, that the Maharaja acted under duress and that he had no right to sign an agreement with India.

Mistake By Prime Minister Neheru :

While Indian forces was fighting with the invaders, Neheru sought resolution of the issue at the UN Security Council and he presented himself at UN And agreed with the terms that laid by the united nation. Neheru declared the ceasefire.

Ceasefire means : No further war. The armed forces will stop where they are at that moment.

This how LOC came between India and Pakistan and India has lost half of the Kashmir to Pakistan which is known as POK.

Many Believes, If Neheru would not had declared ceasefire the Kashmir issue would may had resolved at that time only. Nehru was very concern about his image out side India.

Kashmir insurgency (From1990 to now)

From 1948 to till 1989 kashmir was largely peaceful. But it all started when Afgan war end.

Insurgency was largely started by Afghan mujahadeen who entered the Kashmir valley following the end of the Soviet-Afghan War. The then prime minister of Pakistan Benazir bhutto and ISI chief had played a larger role for creating an uneasy situation at the valley.

Around Five lakh kashmir pandits were thrown out of the valley, by the Pakistani sponsor terrorists. Indian army took some hard decision and fired at Kashmir population which resulted casualties. Situation became bad to worst. Trust deficits has grown between Indian govt and people of Kashmir..

Till now more than 70000 people(including all) has been died since 1990.

Now.. We all know where we stand. The paradise has turned into a fear zone.

We are losing our very own kasmir..

I Know. I have not covered everything. But it is not possible to explain the whole history of Kashmir to present day in 3 pages.

I have tried my best..

Indian Media and Stockholm Syndrome

Note : The  “Stockholm syndrome” is associated with a bank robbery case in the town Stockholm in the year 1973. It’s a situation where the hostages showed sympathy and positive attitude towards their hijacker

The reason I believe Indian media is suffering from the Stockholm syndrome is, It is showing same sympathetic attitude and advocating for all those events/people/Idea and action which has the potential to destroy the unity of India.

I will give 3 examples to prove that Mainstream Indian media is suffering from this deadly psychological disorder called “Stockholm syndrome” .

(Note : This topics is not so simple. It can not be covered only in a single page. But I know if i will write a long one then no body will read it. So i tried to keep it as short as possible.)

1.     -------Lets Start with the famous JNU event:

Some students were gathered for a controversial event. All the top student union leaders of JNU were present there. The list includes president of JNU student union leader also. The event starts with very objectionable slogans. To name the few slogans like,

Bharat Tere tukde honge, ... Tukde honge, tukde honge.
Bhrat ki Barbadi Tak, jung rahegi.... Jung rahegi, Jung Rahegi.

The list of slogans are goes on...

I did not find any academic intellectual in these slogans. I don’t believe any country will allow this type of events in its university campuses.  There is nothing freedom about theses speeches.

After this event, police took action and arrest warrants were issued against the event organizers.

Now here comes the great Media. Discussion after discussion, bulletin after bulletin has presented in all mainstream media to project its organizers as victims of police action. Nonstop coverage had given to its organizers. How a poor student is suffering from political vendetta. They were projected as hero and face of freedom of choice.

How can media show this type of attitude and sympathy towards the people who are advocating for destroy of India?? . The intellectual writers and journalists are forgot that they are also part of this nation.. If India will destroy what will happen to there 24 hour news channels ?

----Now come to second example to prove my point.

2.       Advocating for Naxalasim :

Former Prime minister Dr Manmohan singh ones said : Naxalasim is the single most ideology which a threat to the unity of India. It is like cancer. Slowly, slowly it is eating our country. Total Fourteen thousand people have lost their lives due to naxal violence in last 15 years.

In spite of this, I have never seen a TV show and never seen a top journalist to criticize naxalisim. Always you will hear a story like how brutal police forces are to the innocent naxals.

Media will never show how naxalits are killing innocent tribals just because they suspects as a police informer.

I still dint understand why this one sided sympathy for the breakers for this nation!!!

---Lets come to 3rd point..

3.       Foreign funded NGOs  :The single most groups which are creating hurdles in the developmental activities in India are  the NGOs which are receiving funds from the foreign donors/nations.

Just for a example :In the Year 2002 Government of India had decided to install a nuclear plant at “Kudankulam” to generate electricity. But how come govt can decide without permission of great NGOs and Media. The problem starts now. Protest, protest and more protest...  situation created so that scientists were feared to work there.

This is not a single example. 100s of developmental projects are on hold due to protest by NGOs. These organizations are using local population against these projects by creating fear in their mind.

But I have never seen any media for criticizing these NGOs. Instead they are coming to TV shows and giving talks as if they are some kind of saint..Media should show opposite side of these protests. How devlopment is in stand still due to these NGOs...

I thing i have given my point.. If anyone is having any thoughts about this topic then they can give it.
Critics are most well come.. I Believe positive discussion is healthy for everyone..
